Esther Feron Joins ALEI: Advancing Sustainable Solar Development

Esther Feron is joining the ALEI team as a research assistant intern this summer after graduating from the Institute of Applied Agriculture with a degree in Agricultural Leadership and Communications. Esther will be using skills from the IAA, as well as from the Bachelors they are pursuing in Environmental Science and Policy with a concentration in Land Use from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Paul Goeringer, a Principal Faculty Specialist and Extension Specialist, has been honored by the University of Maryland and the National Association of County Ag Agents (NACAA).  With UMD, he has been honored with the prestigious Provost’s Excellence Award for Professional Track Faculty

PFAS Workshop At UMES Brings Farmers, Researchers and Regulators Together

In April, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s School of Agriculture and Natural Sciences,  UMES Extension and ALEI hosted the first of its kind workshop on per-and-polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). PFAS is a broad class of man-made chemicals that are a growing concern for Maryland communities and the entire nation.

ALEI Legal Specialist Megan Todd Presented at Urban Agriculture Events – National Urban Farm Festival (Brandywine, MD) and the Urban Food Systems Symposium (Columbus, OH)

On April 21, Megan Todd gave a presentation ​on the Value-Added Regulatory Decision Tree resource at the National Urban Farm Festival in Brandywine, Maryland. This in-person event, organized by Maryland urban farmer Liz Robinson, celebrated the importance of urban farming. Participants discovered innovative farming techniques, tasted fresh organic produce, and connected with local farmers.
