ALEI Launches Webinar Series for Mid-Atlantic Agriculture Service Providers

This year, the Agriculture Law Education Initiative (ALEI) will host a quarterly series of webinars focused on developing legal issues in agriculture and food law. These webinars are one way ALEI will better assist Mid-Atlantic service providers to prepare for developments in agricultural law.

“These webinars will focus on important issues impacting many Mid-Atlantic agricultural producers,” said Paul Goeringer, Extension Legal Specialist with the University of Maryland. “We will focus on the legal environment around new dicamba products and the impact the recent Syngenta settlement will have on biotechnologies being introduced.”

More information on this series is available at https://go.umd.edu/2018AgLawWebinars.

The first webinar, Current Legal Issues Associated with Dicamba will be held Thursday, June 19 at 12 noon EST. This webinar will compare new dicamba technology with earlier dicamba herbicides while covering the developing legal issues associated with dicamba. As soybean growers across the Mid-Atlantic prepare to increase their acreage of dicamba-resistant soybeans, it’s important to know the legal landscape surrounding this technology.

The second webinar, Agricultural Biotechnology and Implications of the Syngenta Settlement, will be held Thursday, August 23 at 12 noon EST. Terms of a $1.51 billion settlement were announced this March, settling a class action lawsuit filed against Syngenta by U.S corn growers, grain handlers, and ethanol plants. Drew Kershen from Oklahoma University School of Law will discuss how future biotechnologies could be impacted by this settlement.

The final webinar in this series, Top Agricultural and Food Law Developments in 2018, will be led by University of Maryland’s Paul Goeringer. This webinar, covering developments in agriculture and food law during 2018, will take place Thursday, November 15 at 12 noon EST.

Registration for each webinar is $15.00, or $30.00 for all three. If you register and are unable to attend, webinars will be recorded and a link provided.
