On November 18, ALEI collaborated with the Maryland State Bar Association (“MSBA”) to host a workshop at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. The event, “Legislative Launchpad: Turning Ideas Into Law,” began with welcoming remarks by ALEI Legal Specialist Megan Todd, followed by a panel discussion and complimentary headshots for the approximately 30 students, faculty, and lawyers that participated.
The panelists shared insights on navigating the legislative process, communicating effectively with legislators, and achieving solutions through policy. The panel was moderated by ALEI Legal Specialist Kimberly Fullerton. Distinguished panelists included:
- Jeff Waldstreicher, Maryland State Senator and Vice Chair of the Judicial Proceedings Committee, who shared his experiences and insights from the legislative floor.
- Kathleen Hoke, Professor of Law and Director of the Legal Resource Center for Public Health Policy, who discussed effective advocacy strategies.
- Churon Lanier, Legislative Director for the Office of Delegate CT Wilson, who provided a behind-the-scenes look at legislative strategy and advocacy.
MSBA Animal Law Section, Agriculture Section, and Young Lawyer Section sponsored this event, which concluded with remarks from section representatives.
We extend our gratitude to the panelists and attendees for making this event a success. For more information, please contact Kimberly Fullerton at k.fullerton@law.umaryland.edu.
